I
really considered updating my front page every two weeks but I have
been told by many folks the message I give each week helps them to
look forward to the next week, so I will continue updating weekly.
“After striving for a while and making little or no headway, we're
tempted to give up. That's why most people never enjoy any
significant kind of success. The winners in life realize that lack
of progress is not a reason to give up, but rather a reason to
adjust the approach. If one way is not working, there are probably a
hundred, or a thousand other approaches that haven't yet been
attempted. There is a way to get where you want to go. If the first
few attempts fall short, keep looking for another way. Learn what
you can from your disappointing results, and then try a different
approach. One must practice being persistent without being
stubborn. There's no need to keep doing something that doesn't work.
Yet there is no reason to give up. There is a way, and you'll find
it when you persist. Finding yourself at a dead end does not in
itself prevent you from reaching your destination. There's another
road that will take you there. Keep looking and you'll find it.
Reach a little higher today than yesterday. Raise your expectations
a little bit more. After all, you're wiser and more experienced than
you were even just a day ago. In fact, you now have more knowledge
and more experience than you've ever had before in your life. Even
if yesterday was a total disaster, you've at least learned something
from it. And if yesterday was full of success, you've learned from
that as well. The bottom line is that you're more experienced, more
aware of what works and what doesn't work. So reach higher today
than you did yesterday. And resolve to reach even higher tomorrow.
As time goes on you are continually growing and improving, so you
might as well take advantage of that. Reach higher and you'll
attain more. Expect more of yourself, and those expectations will
soon become your reality. Each day provides ample opportunity for
improvement. So expect to improve. And you will.”
The
Jazzee J’s had an exciting weekend. Although there was no
class on Thursday (I have heard over and over again how everyone
wants Thursday’s back and believe me I am looking for a venue) we
still held our head up high and had a great time. First we
celebrated TKO’s 4th SwingOut Graduation at On
Broadway Club on Friday night. KO did an excellent job and the next
level advanced graduation was fun to watch. Memorizing a routine
is not easy to do. My wonderful friends, Dominque and Lauren,
from Dallas showcased there flava of swingout/west coast dance is
elegant style. On Saturday night I did a mini class before the
great sounds of D’Rect Smooth Jazz Band began to play
at Rhea’s 2nd Saturday VIP party. We celebrated Jazzee
Jewel Alma’s birthday. The house was filled with swingout
dancers and west coast dancers. The band played the right music,
the DJ played the right music and we kept the dance floor all
night. If you were not in the house you missed and amazing band
(they play every Sunday night at Elmer’s Bar & Grill, 39th
& Lincoln, Okc, Ok) the wonderful food from Alma’s Kitchen and
Leo’s Barbeque, the showcasing by Dominque and Lauren
from Dallas, the newest line dances, the best freestyle swingout and
west coast in Okc and last but not least the magnificent soul train
line dancers!!!! The dance floor was rocking. Let me thank
everyone that came out, especially the men, because without you guys
we could not do it! Love ya!!!
We
are postponing graduation until August since there are so many
events and vacations are happening in July. On Saturday we will
begin selecting partners so if you plan on graduating in August,
please be in attendance. After class we will have our Open Floor “Ladies’
Choice/Men Choice” and I would also like Distinguished Kings
of Swing - Alexis, Alvin, Avery, Chris, Eugene, Everett, Femi,
Dannie, Darrell, Gary, Ira, John, J.T., Kendrick (please come),
Larry, Leonard, Mack B., Marvin, Mike F., Mike G., Norman, Rico,
Rodney, Trey (please come) and Tyrone (if I left any Jem out, please
forgive me).
We
would also like for TKO's graduating class to attend. There
will be no contest, just choice dance and maybe a little surprise!
Class begins at 7 pm and Ladies’ Choice/Men’s Choice open dance
floor at 9 pm. The cost is $5.00. See you on the dance floor!!! I
must say, nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and
dance. Practice makes perfect. To dance is to be out of yourself,
larger, more beautiful, more powerful. So dance till the stars come
down from the above, Dance, Dance, Dance and you will feel the
love!!! - sb
Until next time,
continue to pray, be safe, stay healthy and keep dancing!!!! -Sandy
Brown
